How – And Why – Derma Rollers Work

Derma roller technology was first developed by German scientists in 2000.  Modern Derma rollers work by puncturing the surface of the skin, resulting in collagen production stimulated by cellular tissue regeneration.  Collagen production is known to rejuvenate damaged skin and  has been scientifically linked to:

  • Scar reduction
  • Treating cellulitis
  • Helping reduce the appearance age lines and wrinkles
  • Diminishing stretch marks
  • Rejuvenating skin and lips
  • Reducing acne scars and shrinking enlarged pores

Doctors state that derma rollers are nearly the same results as expensive Fraxel laser treatments. (NYMag, 2013). Studies also confirm that Dermarolling helps increase topical medications penetrate more efficiently.  Average absorption rates of topical medications is 4-8%, the typical derma roller patient will see exponentially higher rates as high as 97%.

How to Use Your Derma Roller

*Important:  Doctors recommend rolling no more than once every 2-3 days*

Establish a clean, sterile environment prior to use

Sterilize your Derma Roller by soaking the needles with an approved disinfectant (such as rubbing alcohol). Wash your hands thoroughly with an antibacterial soap and hot water. Thoroughly cleanse treatment area with soap and hot water to remove all traces of makeup and pollutants. Pat dry for maximum cleanliness.

Safe, Doctor Approved Treatment Methods

Begin rolling the treatment area under light pressure first vertically, then horizontally as shown in illustration 1. Continue lightly rolling diagonally in an X pattern as shown in illustration 2.  Repeat this process  until the treatment area has been rolled approximately 10 times.  Complete this in all treatment areas. Avoid eyes and lips. Treatments should be completed in 5-10 minutes and can be repeated 2-3 times weekly.
