LED light therapy facials, masks and treatments have become extremely popular over the last year or so, due to many a celebrity snapping selfies while behind their masks. This ‘it’ treatment has a lot more going for it than just looking like the ghost emoji of selfies, so let me tell you a bit more…

LED stands for light-emitting-diodes. First developed by NASA, to promote rapid skin healing for astronauts by re-energizing the skin at the cellular level. LED works by sending wavelengths of light into the deeper layers of the skin. But without having to get too technical, the basis of this treatment works on a combination of different colored LED lights to help one’s skin with various ‘problem’ areas. The facials and masks are generally made up of 2-3 different colored LED light layers/sessions. This gives the best possible chance of seeing great results, as multiple ‘problem’ areas can be targeted with the different colored lights.

Benefits of LED Light Therapy

1) Minimizes the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines and crow’s feet and minimizes pores

2) Improves the tone and texture of the skin

3) Restores natural collagen production

4) Reduces melanin that causes age spots

5) Minimizes the effects of sun-damaged skin

6) Boosts moisture and circulation

7) Reduces redness, flush and other forms of skin degradation

8) Whether you’re undergoing LED light therapy to combat wrinkles, fine lines, brown spots, or to improve the appearance of your skin, it’s a safe and effective method for varying skin types.

Some might prefer to hone in on one specific type/color of LED light therapy as they want to concentrate on a particular skin concern, rather than treat the skin as a whole. Here is a brief breakdown on what the different colored LED lights can help with;

Red LED light - is proven to stimulate the production of collagen. Collagen is essential for repairing damaged skin tissue and improving skin texture. This leads to reduction of fine lines, wrinkles, scars, large pores and hyperpigmentation.

Blue LED light - reduces inflammation and drastically boosts skin recovery while decreasing skin oiliness by lowering excess sebum production.

Green LED light - reduces hyperpigmentation, discoloration, freckles, sun damage, and age spots.  It lightens and reduces existing pigmentation, improves overall skin tone, and protects skin from premature discolorations.
